Approximately in year 1730 Heikki Olavinpoika, the son of the house Isojoki Sorila, and Vappu Jaakontytär, the spouse of the house Merikarvia Kaasantytär, was given a tenancy to the deserted Merikarvia Honkajärvi *) house. Their son Juho was then about 10 years old. Juho, better known as Honka Dude, got married in 1741 with Maria Juhontytär. Juho and Maria Honkajärvi received a total of five children, of whom four (three sons and one daughter) reached adulthood. Maria died in 1798 and Juho in 1800.
There are now about 10,000 descendants of Juho and Maria Honkajärvi, and more than 15,000 family members. Juho and Maria Honkajärvi Family Society was founded in 2004 to preserve family's traditions as well as to promote the feeling of solidarity among our members.
